Many people come to TOWNSEND COTTAGES to simply “get away from it all. While we offer a completely self-contained area of relaxation and recreation, you and your family are just minutes away from many of Vermont's "Four Seasons" activities:

  • SUMMER: One of the finest public bathing beaches is just a mile from our cottages. The Townshend State Park offers free swimming at the Townshend Dam (large sandy beach), picnicing, fishing, and a boat launching area. Miles of hiking trails can be found just steps away from your door.
  • FALL. Blazes of color, which paint our countryside, are yours to see and enjoy. Tour the back roads through covered bridges for breathtaking views. Southern Vermont is a sportsman's paradise. Hunt for deer, black bear, and wild turkey throughout our surrounding mountains.
  • WINTER. Ski at nearby Stratton, Mt. Snow, Bromley, and Magic Mountain. There are also many snowmobile and cross-country ski trails close by.
  • SPRING. This is the time of year when Vermont maple sap begins to run. You can watch maple syrup being made at many of the local sugarhouses and enjoy a traditional treat of "Sugar on Snow."

Throughout the year you and your family can shop or just browse in the local antique and curiosity shops, as well as visit many auctions, flea markets, country suppers and fairs. Mary Meyer’s stuffed animal Factory Store and Black Bear Museum are right next-door and we are a convenient one mile west of Townshend Village.

In addition to many fine restaurants within the area of TownsEnd Cottages, a short drive takes you to the Thrill Zone at Bromley, Marlboro Music Festival, Santa's Land, Weston Playhouse, and many other fun and exciting attractions in Southern Vermont.

The West River is just outside your door, offering some great fishing and canoeing. Our own area offers a complete playground for the kids as well as volleyball and horseshoes. We also have picnic tables and grills for outdoor cooking.

There are several markets, each offering gas, within three miles of the cottages. Restaurants, such as the Dam Diner, also offer nearby convenience.
